Celebrating the life of
Donald Paul Homar
August 15, 1939 - December 31, 2022

Donald (affectionately known as “Don” or “Donnie”) Paul Homar, 83, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia. Don was born on August 15, 1939 in Winchester, Virginia to Orville Temple and Laura Virginia Ashley Homar. A proud graduate of Handley High School, Don went on to Campbell College. He returned to Winchester to start what would become his lifelong career in food sales working for Whitehouse Apple Sauce, Washington Beef, Rose Packing and then co-founding Global Military Marketing Agency to serve the U.S. Commissaries.
Don was an active member of the Virginia Jaycees, and participated in numerous charitable events supporting the Special Olympics, Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society, and many others.
Don is survived by his wife of 47 years Susan Homar; his children, Todd Homar (Peggy), Ann Manookian (Dave), and Rachel Frankenfield (Chris); his grandchildren, Ashley (Drennan) Kenderdine, Brooke Homar, Adam Manookian, and Sloane and Grace Frankenfield; his great granddaughter, Purdey Kenderdine; his brother Bruce Homar (Punky), his nephew Brad Homar (Amy), his niece Sandy Jackson (Chip) and many beloved family members and friends.
Don knew no strangers as he always found a way to connect with everyone he met. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, big heart, and great gift of telling stories (of which he had many). Don was a lover of history who never stopped educating himself. He loved to travel, collect rare coins and art, spend time boating and fishing, and he cherished his time with family and friends at the Homar home “Temlaur” in Colonial Beach, Virginia.
Don hoped he would be remembered by family and friends by the words of the Jaycee creed: “Human personality is the greatest work of art.”
A service will be held at Pohick Church, 9301 Richmond Hwy, Lorton, VA on Friday, January 27th at 1:00 PM, with a reception following in the Church Parish Hall. Interment in Green Hill Cemetery will be held the next day for family.
Don, you will be greatly missed. You were always so welcoming and the life of the party! Thinking of Susan and the family at this difficult time !
